I am reforming the New Arcadians 1930’s dance band. We had a successful band a number of years ago chiefly performing for an audience of strict-tempo ballroom dancers at public and private functions. This time, we are firmly focused on recreating the period magic of the 30’s with a focus on ‘entertainment’ and seek dynamic performers who are keen to get involved rather than simply go through the motions. The repertoire will comprise original period tunes from the likes of Harry Roy, Nat Gonella and Ambrose etc. as well as some brand new song authentically written ‘in the style’. A passion for the music is the foremost requirement as I do not want to focus on small-time pub gigs and functions but aim for something more fulfilling; London clubs, music festivals and larger corporate/private functions so a willingness to rehearse/gig for free (or for a token payment) while we get the group established is a must. I would like to create a band somewhere between Top Shelf Jazz (www.myspace.com/topshelfjazz ) and the Pasadena Rood Orchestra. Anyone who can play an instrument to a high standard can apply, I will consider any instruments at this stage and will build a core band around those who come forward.
