Mechanical Design Engineer
My client designs and manufactures equipment used to assist safety in the air, on land and in the sea. They work extensively with marine companies as well as the services and coastguard. Their products are state of the art and they are pioneering the way forward in their specialist niche market.
They are urgently seeking to employ a Mechanical Design Engineer to be based at their Portsmouth location.
MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF JOB
To provide Mechanical engineering effort within the Engineering Department to
design, develop, draw and document new products; in accordance with the Company
procedures. To support the Manufacturing and Marketing Departments to maintain
the Company's existing product range.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies and components in support of new and existing products.
2. Prepare 2D/3D CAD models & files; and the necessary manufacturing drawings, artworks, process specifications and project documentation for authorised release to Manufacture.
3. To implement Drawing Change Notes as and when necessary to support the introduction of new products and the maintenance of existing products.
4. To design, develop and draw mechanical systems and assemblies in support of
new and existing products.
5. To liaise with relevant staff throughout the company as and when required.
6. To evaluate and test those parts, products and assemblies within your control.
7. To investigate manufacturing/production problems and to implement remedial
measures as appropriate.
8. To liaise with suppliers to resolve problems and ensure the timely and correct
introduction of new designs and processes.
9. To monitor, control and report technical progress and costs on those tasks and
work packages within your control.
10. To compile and maintain Project Documentation files and records to the defined
company standards.
11. To produce reports, papers, specifications, handbook drafts and other
documentation as necessary to support the above activities.

12. To perform such other duties commensurate with the position that may be
requested from time to time by the Engineering Manager.
13. To adhere Company Rules & Procedures, particularly with regard to Health & Safety and COSHH.
