Specialist Satcom Systems Engineer

Our client a global blue-chip organisation, are looking for a Specialist Satcom Systems Engineer for their Stevenage site.

Mission

To maintain a high degree of technical competency within the T&P Engineering Discipline.
To identify high level solutions and innovative concepts for T&P products and bids.


Main Activities

The following tasks will be carried out within the context of bid, project and R&D activities in T&P for Airborne Products;
·System studies and preparation of technical proposals for future bids
·Development of top level system architectures including functional analysis, networking and security issues.
·Preparation of specifications at system and equipment level.
·Preparation of performance verification plans at system and equipment level.
·Preparation of test specifications and performance verification reports.
·System integration and the provision of guidance wrt problems arising.
·Preparation of NRE estimates for systems engineering elements.
Support multidiscipline technical reviews (formal & informal) to ensure a cohesive system design.
·Proposing research and development topics for incorporation in the business technology plans.
·Professionally carry out assigned bid, project and R&D activities in accordance with approved scope of work.
·Maintaining contact and co-operation with other engineering authorities within the Systems Engineering Group.
·Technical presentations to current and prospective customers.
·Occasional overseas travel will be required.

Internal and External Relationships


Work assignments will be placed by the head of system engineering. Routine tasking within assignments will be carried out by the Airborne Product Manager.
Liaise with bid managers to ensure that best practice and procedures are built into technical bids.

Maintain a good working relationship with customers, prospective customers and subcontractors on all product related technical matters.

Skills
Essential
a) Recognised expertise in communications systems.
b)An in-depth knowledge of the design drivers for satellite ground systems and terminals.
c)Able to work with and lead a multidiscipline team.
d)Commercial and financial appreciation for developing bids and business plans.

Plus any mix of the following skillsets is applicable to this role;
·An in-depth knowledge of aircraft equipment installations
·Network architect with a bias towards link budget analysis and network management.
·An ability to acquire new skills and knowledge quickly.
·Strong problem solving skills.
·Think at conceptual level frequently operating from first principles.
·Understanding of system development lifecycle, including integration and proving.
·Voice and data communications networks.
·Electronic Protection Measure modems.


Qualifications/ Experience

A graduate in a relevant engineering/ scientific discipline with experience in a related industry.
