Job description;

Systems overview:

• Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP/Vista desktops and laptops
• IIS 6.0
• SQL Server 2005 (Standard)

Customer database for telesales and other usage:

• Telesales Front-Office Application built using vbscript/ASP driving T-SQL SQL-Server 2005 database actively used 13:00 to 20:00 each weekday

• Administration Back-Office Application built using Visual Studio 2005 C# .NET

The requirement is for an experienced senior SQL Server 2005 DBA capable of managing and advising on all aspects of the normal day to day, week to week etc. processes of administering a small to medium sized SQL Server 2005 database as described.

The person supporting the service must be experienced in:

• normal SQL Server 2005 system management
• support mirroring and instance switching in case of failures
• understand how to manage SQL’s performance (important)
• understand how to analyse and improve T-SQL query performance (important)
• most aspects of the development of T-SQL code and its interaction with IIS ASP and ASP.NET driven applications
• some knowledge or willingness to learn C# with regard to best practices when interacting with SQL Server 2005 (training can be provided)

Although this is primarily a DBA role, the candidate should expect elements of general web scripting and development.

1. Minor adjustments to the system to allow flexible working. (5%)
2. General SQL Server database administration. (5%)
3. Design and development of functional database enhancements (10%)
4. Database tuning and design enhancements for improved scalability (10%)
5. Design and development of business administration functions (30%)
6. Design and development of business reports and business reporting system (30%)
7. General support and advice regarding sales and repair support database (10%)
