Health and Safety Manager
Health & Safety Manager required for a busy, fast growing and well established business with, multiple sites in the South
Vane recruitment are currently working with a business who are looking to recruit an individual to take full responsibility of all health and safety aspects for multiple sites
These sites are based in Portsmouth, Southampton and Fareham so are a short distance apart
Core Working Hours: Between 8.00 am – 6.00 pm Monday to Friday
Saturday mornings as and when required
(You will be required to work the hours necessary for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities)
Salary: £28,000-33,000 dependant on experience
Main job purpose:
Responsible for managing the health and safety of all offices and Waste Transfer Stations at Portsmouth, Fareham and Southampton, and for introducing Environmental & Quality Management System standards.
You will take full ownership of all health and safety elements, set proceedures, train and communicate all processes across the business
Areas of Responsibilities & Key Tasks will include
1. Responsible for the coordination, management and implementation of a robust Company Health & Safety Policy and Policy Statement.
2. Responsible for planning, implementing and managing Environment & Quality Management System standards (eg ISO9001 or ISO14001).
3. Develop, implement, manage, coordinate and update health and safety policies and procedures.
4. Assess and review all health and safety policies and procedures on a regular basis to ensure continual improvement and full compliance with health and safety legislation.
5. Undertake risk assessments to ensure all hazards have been identified and appropriate action has been taken and compile control procedures (i.e. safe systems of work).
6. Co-ordinate the investigation of any safety hazard or risk and recommend preventative measures to minimise potential risks to employees and the Company.
7. Assist in the completion of tender documents relating to health and safety information and statistics.
8. Responsible for the accident books information, the recording of accidents, and the compilation of accident statistics.
9. Provide appropriate health and safety advice, guidance and training to all new and current employees and conduct (or assist with) toolbox talks.
10. Ensure all employees are aware of and fully comply with all current health and safety legislation.
11. Implement new initiatives as and when required.
12. Carry out audits to ensure the Company’s compliance with health and safety.
13. Keep up-to-date and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all existing and new health and safety legislation and regulations.
14. Provide statistical analysis as and when required.
15. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all other managers and relevant third parties.
16. Hold membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

To apply you must have
- be NEBOSH General qualified (or equivalent) as a minimum.
- be a team player, but also able to work on own initiative, and have excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and have good IT and report writing skills.
- have previous experience in managing all elements of health and safety within a previous role
- have good organisational and training/presentation skills.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within a Waste management, recycling construction, aggregate or transport industry. This is a preference although not essential to apply for the position
